RSV can be transmitted through direct contact

Corresponding author of the paper, Professor Harry Nair of the University of Edinburgh, said: “RSV is a major cause of acute lower respiratory tract infections in young children, and this study shows that children 6 months and younger are particularly vulnerable, especially with the new crown pneumonia epidemic around the world. The easing of restrictions has seen a surge in cases of children with RSV, and most infants and young children born in the past two years have never been exposed to RSV and therefore have no immunity to the virus. As many RSV vaccine candidates are in development, by fine age range Estimates of 2019 will help identify those priority groups, including pregnant women, so that children in the youngest age groups can be protected, similar to the current strategy of providing pertussis, typhoid and tetanus vaccines to pregnant women.”

“RSV can be transmitted through direct contact, indirect contact, droplets and aerosols. From the perspective of transmission, it is consistent with the current epidemic of the new coronavirus. Therefore, many prevention and control measures against the new coronavirus, such as maintaining effective social distance, wearing Masks, etc. can also effectively control the spread and prevalence of RSV.” The first author of the article, Professor Li You of Nanjing Medical University, pointed out in an exclusive interview with a reporter from Science and Technology Daily that at present, there is no treatment guidance for children with new coronary pneumonia complicated by RSV infection, but A UK study showed that co-infection with Covid-19 RSV did not increase the risk of death or the severity of mechanical ventilation in patients compared with Covid-19 alone.
